At the Annual ViBGYOR Film Festival-2015

1. FILM SCREENINGS
A total of 100 films will be screened at three venues. Documentaries, short-fiction films, animations, music videos, spots and student films, shot on film or video, which uphold or discuss the themes of the ViBGYOR Spectrum, will be selected for screening. There will be various packages like Focus of the Year, Retrospectives, Country Focus, Focus-Children, and the 7-Themes ViBGYOR Packages. The festival ensures that most of the filmmakers whose films are screened will attend the screenings and interact with the audiences.

2. MEET THE DIRECTORS
These are avenues for the filmmakers and activists to interact with the audience. When the filmmakers can get a response to their films from the audience, the activists can make sure that their voices are heard.

3. MINI CONFERENCES AND SOUTH ASIAN CONFERENCE
Selected topics related to the ViBGYOR spectrum will be addressed and discussed by academicians and learned men and women in these sessions.
An eminent personality from India or abroad will present C. SARATCHANDRAN MEMORIAL LECTURE on a topic in tune with the focus theme of the year, ‘Stolen Democracies’.

4. EXHIBITIONS
Exhibitions of PAINTING, PHOTOGRAPHS and OTHER ART/ HANDICRAFT OBJECTS related to the ViBGYOR themes and concerns will be an important part of the festival. Here the various Partner Organizations of ViBGYOR also get an opportunity to showcase their services and products so that people attending the festival get an idea of the present social movement scenario.

5. FOOD & CRAFT FAIR
A Food and Craft Fair is organized each year at ViBGYOR in order to foster the idea of indigenous production and consumption. Many local produces get new avenues of marketing at the fair.

6. RESISTANCE MUSIC & CULTURAL EVENING
Every evening during the festival a group of artistes (mostly local) will perform MUSIC RECITALS which will lead to the CULTURAL NIGHT on the eve of the Closing day, with a dusk–to-dawn celebration of dance, music and cinema.

7. LOCAL SOCIAL MOVEMENTS
-Movements at the Festival
Various social movements, campaigns and agitations happening/ being organized in and around Thrissur will be given a platform to interact with the audience.
-Festival at the movements
Selected guests, filmmakers and delegates who attend ViBGYOR festival, will be introduced to local struggles (face-to-face at each location) in view of interacting with and encouraging the local activists and movements.

Activities leading to the Annual Festival 2015

a.ViBGYOR TOURING FESTIVALS:
Selected packages from ViBGYOR in previous years and prominent socially relevant films are being shown in different parts of Kerala state, especially small towns and villages with the collaboration of film societies and other interested groups. The ViBGYOR personnel ensures the films selected for screening are communicated well to the non-literate (visually illiterate) audiences by taking the role of a facilitator and also by including local representatives in the film selection process.

b. CAMPUS ViBGYOR:
The Project team has started visiting schools and colleges in Thrissur district and elsewhere in collaboration with platforms in the campuses, and film screenings are being organized along with discussions and debates. Festivals of 1-3 days duration are organized. During the Campus ViBGYOR, short fiction and documentary films that appeal and question young minds are showcased. We are also building up a Young Volunteers Core Group through the Campus ViBGYOR sessions.

c. VILLAGE ViBGYOR:
Film Festivals are organized in various Grama Panchayaths as a curtain raiser for the annual festival. There are screenings of documentary movies in the evenings at village centres for 3 days. During the day time, films are screened for school/higher secondary school students in the panchayath, showcasing short fiction and documentary films that can inspire and inform them. Evening screenings are for adults and interactive sessions with filmmakers are arranged, screening around 20 films in each Panchayath.

d. FILM WORKSHOP:
Just before the annual Film Festival, a Film Workshop is conducted in Thrissur, in a way that the last days of the workshop coincide with the festival and hence the participants can attend the Festival and interact with the filmmakers who attend the festival, in serious discourses. This Workshop meant for young filmmakers and students from across the country, we hope, will induce a sense of the larger society they live in and the deeper issues and concerns of its most needy sections.
