ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഭാഷകളിലെ ആധുനികതാപ്രസ്ഥാനം സൃഷ്ടിച്ച വലിയ കവികളിലൊരാളായ ആറ്റൂര്‍ രവി വര്‍മ്മയുടെ കാവ്യ ജീവിതത്തെ തിരമൊഴിയില്‍ അടയാളപ്പെടുത്താനുള്ള ശ്രമമാണ് മറുവിളി. ജീവ ചരിത്ര ഡോക്യുമെന്ററികളുടെ പതിവു വിവരണ ശൈലി ഈ ചിത്രം പിന്തുടരുന്നില്ല. കവി പുലര്‍ന്നതും നടന്നതും അറിഞ്ഞതുമായ ഇടങ്ങള്‍, കവിയുടെ ജീവിതത്തോടും എഴുത്തിനോടും പല തരഠിലും കാലത്തിലും സംവദിച്ചു പോന്നിട്ടുള്ളവര്‍ കവിക്കൊപ്പമിരുന്ന് ആ കാവ്യ ജീവിതത്തെ പുനര്‍വായിക്കുന്ന സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങള്‍, ആറ്റൂര്‍ക്കവിതയുടെ വിവിധ ശൈലിയിലുള്ള അവതരണങ്ങള്‍, ആറ്റൂര്‍മൊഴിയുടെ കാതലിനെ സമകാലിക ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ദൃശ്യങ്ങളിലേക്ക് മൊഴിമാറ്റാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവ ഇടകലരുന്ന തിരയെഴുത്താണ് 90 മിനിറ്റ് നീണ്ടു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന ഈ ചിത്രം. ഇമേജ് കമ്മ്യൂണ്‍ എന്ന കൂട്ടായ്മയുടെ ബാനറില്‍ കേന്ദ്ര സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമിയുടെ ധന സഹായത്തോടെ നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച മറുവിളി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുനത് കവി അന്‍വര്‍ അലിയാണ്.

Focus Theme 2015 - Green Growth
The value of intact eco-systems and all the resources they provide us is a concept overlooked by economists and administrators in their preoccupations with GDP calculations. Nature is not giving out any more free lunches is what the economists warn us now. We are waking up to the revelations that our dependence on these resources needs to be regulated and it is high time we cleaned the mess we have created. But how soon and how big are going to be the steps we take toward this is what we have to ask ourselves.

The advent of the 21st century is marked by our contentment with cheap commodities, rising consumption, changes stage-managed by governments in economic policies and utilization of resources, economies driven by corporations and a firm belief in the free market. The frequency with which ecological disasters have begun to strike is an indicator that somewhere we have started to push the resilience of Nature to dangerous limits. Increasing evidence links causes for climate change to unchecked human activity. Climate related uncertainties, among other reasons, have impacted food growing and availability, leading to skyrocketing food prices which in turn have increased the vulnerability of the most marginalised.

Environmental economists talk about ‘breached thresholds’ caused by our unchecked or unregulated growth, which will lead ecosystems to new states of equilibrium that may not be good for human life. They call for radical changes brought about by bold political leadership that puts an end to a capitalism that has fed off bad governance and cheap natural resources. The world is waking up; we need a new paradigm of growth and it can only be Green Growth or `No Growth’.

Green Growthis resource-efficient, cleaner and more resilient without slowing down*.Green Growth could potentially be a solution, but would be contingent on the ease of access for every citizen and willingness of people in power to invest more towards its promotion. Growth coated with a paint of green is not going to bring about any real change. Concerned people across the globe are pinning their hopes at the Climate Summit at the United Nations as an opportunity. They want their leaders to bring in more bold action than mere rhetoric to the summit table. People want growth and are demanding a drastic change in the direction of the current growth.Will their leaders be responsive?

A Green Growth that puts Nature at the center of the equation and understands that her magnanimity and generosity have already been pushed to the brink could be a step in the right direction.

A Green Growth that recognises the vulnerabilities of the marginalised and forces the affluent and powerful to be more adaptable can be a step in the right direction.

A Green Growth that makes corporations and governments more accountable and transparent can be a step in the right direction.

A Green Growth that can take forward the aspirations of the smaller, seemingly insignificant voices of local peoples, respecting their sacred sites, and identity, can be a step in the right direction.

We need a Green Growth that is not going to shy away from the fact that we may need to slow down and current rates of accelerated growth are just taking us closer to the brink of many breached thresholds. We realise that there is no ‘Planet B’; we need to tread with lighter footprints. We just need to take bold new steps in that right direction.
